Unfortunately, every season, even an exceptionally long one, comes to an end. An engine that is not used in winter must be well prepared for a well-deserved rest of several months.
Clean the entire engine by hand. Do not use strong cleaning agents. Don't forget the hard to reach parts. Polish painted surfaces with Motul Wash & Wax.
Last ride of the season is over? On to the gas station!
If you have a metal gas tank, you will need to refill it to avoid corrosion inside. If you have a plastic tank, you can skip this step. Once you have filled your tank, add Motul Boost and Clean Moto. This means that no petrol residue ends up in the fuel system and the harmful effects of water in the petrol are kept to a minimum.
Once the engine is in the place where it will spend the winter, follow these very important steps.
On carbureted engines, drain fuel from the float chamber through the drain plug or start the engine and run it with the fuel valve closed until all the fuel in the carburetor is used up.
Spray all moving metal and chrome surfaces with Motul E.Z. Lube.
Follow the owner's manual instructions for maintaining titanium exhaust systems. Don't forget to change the oil when the engine is still warm. This will remove all oil and any deposits.
We strongly recommend that you change the oil before your engine goes into hibernation. Even if you have not driven more than 1,000 kilometers per season, this is the best time to change the oil. Motor oil ages faster when the motorcycle is used for short distances. In addition, it dilutes
unburned fuel is the oil. Failure to change old oil with a higher acidity can lead to engine corrosion.
Changing the oil before the winter break...
Protects the engine against corrosion
Do you want the best for your motorcycle? Then use Motul Engine Clean Moto prior to the oil change. Rather not? Then take the next steps and just skip adding the Motul Engine Clean.
Always check the oil level first, is the reservoir completely full? Then first drain +- 200ml of old oil. Is the reservoir not completely full? Then you can immediately continue with the next step. Pour the Motul Engine Clean into the oil reservoir (not into the fuel tank!). Let your engine idle for 15-20 minutes, do not drive the motorcycle after adding the Motul Engine Clean to the oil reservoir. After idling for 15-20 minutes, turn off the engine and drain the old oil. This means you have cleaned the entire oil circuit, including nasty deposits such as soot and ash. Fill the engine with new oil, replace the oil filter and install a new gasket on the oil plug.
Clean and degrease the chain thoroughly with Motul Chain Clean. Let it dry and then apply Motul Chain Lube. If you leave your motorcycle outside for the winter, remove the battery and store it in a warm place. Charge the battery fully and lubricate the battery terminals with battery grease. The removed battery can be connected to a trickle charger. The device charges the battery and ensures an optimal lifespan. An advanced charger turns itself off when fully charged. If your motorcycle is stored in a dry garage during the winter, you can leave the battery permanently connected to the charger. This eliminates the risk of desulfurization and loss of capacity.
ADVANTAGE: After the engine is restarted, the electrical systems do not need to be restarted and calibrated. The engine will be ready to ride and the battery will last much longer

ANTIFREEZE: If your engine is liquid-cooled and you have to leave it outside in winter, the coolant protects it at a temperature of up to -35°C. When it freezes, the liquids increase in volume. This can cause damage, especially to the radiator. Motul Motocool Expert and Motocool Factory Line are ready-to-use coolants that provide protection at low temperatures down to -37°C and -35°C respectively.
MoCool is a cooling system additive that reduces the maximum engine operating temperature and does not contain antifreeze additives. Ordinary tap water can freeze and lead to corrosion. In addition, tap water contains lime and leaves deposits in the cooling system that have a negative effect on thermal conduction.
Increase the tire pressure by 0.3-0.5 bar. Leaving the bicycle on a central stand with the tires under pressure prevents the tires from deforming due to the weight of the motorcycle.
The tire that is still in contact with the ground must be rotated once a month. If you only have a side stand, move the motorcycle once a month to rotate the wheels to change the load on the tires. Motorcycles stored outdoors must be covered with a special waterproof tarpaulin. Ensure free air circulation under the tarpaulin. Vehicles that are stored in a damp room must also be covered - to protect against moisture and dust.
Place the motorcycle on a central or secondary support
Cover the motorcycle to protect it from moisture and dust
If you don't have the space to keep your engine dry in the winter, see if your service center can help.
Finished!
Time to wash the grease, oil and dirt from your hands. If there is no water nearby, you can do this with the dermatologically tested Motul Hands Clean. Squeeze a little gel onto your hands, rub gently and let dry for a while, then rub off the resulting film. Motul Hands Clean removes even the most stubborn dirt and leaves your hands completely cared for.
